Running your plan…

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

Running Your Plan

Running a plan is like taking a night drive home, even though you can only see 50 feet in front of you at times, you know eventually you’ll get there. You may need to adjust your route several times depending on what becomes visible, but sticking fast to your objectives and watching the road you’ll find the quickest and safest route to your destination.

Likewise with a plan, unexpected events will happen along the way and you may need to update and deviate perhaps several times but by drawing back to your objectives and holding fast to your plan you will get there.

Stay Fuelled – Your Mindset

If you want to make the whole journey you need to keep your vehicle fuelled and with the right stuff, similarly if your mind isn’t balanced and focused on the task at hand you won’t complete the project.

Stay positive

With a positive mindset things naturally go smoother and weigh less on your mind.

  • Take a deep breath and smile
Sounds almost too simple? Yet, smiling releases endorphins that make you feel good! So even if you don’t feel like smiling, take a moment and just hold that smile; see your smiling right now! :D
  • Don’t be anxious, relax
Worry and anxiety can at times help spur us forward to complete things, but more often than not anxiousness raises our stress levels, deprives us of sleep and generally runs us in a circle. If you feel anxious consider the reasons why? Is there anything you can do about it right now? If not, stand still, put your hands on your hips and take a slow deep breath and hold it for 2 seconds, exhale slowly… Now grab a pen, a piece of paper and write out your worry list of things you need to do to address this anxiety. Take a second deep breath and work through your list one point at a time.
  • Surprise!
Unexpected things are going to happen, try to stay balanced by accepting that such events will happen and you’ll be in a better state of mind to address them when they do.

Stay focused

“Help, I’m procrastinating!”, I’ve been there myself… sometimes you are thinking about so many different jobs you just start putting off the one you need to do right now and can’t focus. The key here is simple, prioritise. Simply pick up your work plan and establish the highest job priority. Once you know which job is the most important grab that job and do not let go until it’s completed.

Prioritising – Pay off versus time

There are many ways to prioritise your tasks; my method of choice is to weight each job by the time it takes to complete versus the amount of return the job would create upon completion. Once I’ve created this list I prioritise the greatest pay off jobs that take the shortest amount of time and work through each in turn.

Being SMART

It may feel like we’re going back to basics here but you need to be SMART, when you outline, review and update your goals ensure they are SMART.

S – Specific

M – Measurable

A – Attainable

R – Realistic

T – Timed

Regularly review your current jobs on the above points to ensure you are on target and not deviating from your end goal.

For example when it comes to measuring your budget if you find midway through your plan you are running over report the bad news to senior members immediately; it’s better to stop a project that is running over-budget than explaining why your department is at a huge loss in the next senior management meeting.

Top Tip:

  • Annotate!
When things go good or bad annotate your plan accordingly detailing what the event was, the effect it had on the plan and how you resolved the issues. These annotations will prove invaluable when evaluating your plan at a later date and help build your future planning skills.

It’s all in the planning…

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

“Fail to plan, plan to fail…”

We’ve all heard this before, and how true it is!
Have you ever gone food shopping and thought, if only I’d drawn up a shopping list, I wouldn’t miss a thing; I’d be done in half the time, and best of all without having to wrestle my way through the shop feeling exhausted and confused at the end like I’ve achieved nothing.

Whether planning your shopping trip, starting a business, or creating your marketing campaigns things always go smoother with a plan.

Benefits of planning:

  • Saves time
  • limits distractions
  • Increases productivity
  • Massively reduces stress
    And you’ll feel good too!

Where do I start?

First off, take a breath, it’s not as complicated as you might think and you don’t exactly need to plan the whole of 2012 in your first sitting, perhaps consider the first quarter or even a single campaign at hand and then spider out from there.

As with anything, you need to know where you are going in order to get there, write down what you are trying to achieve and think of your aims and objectives for that achievement – keep things simple you can always come back to it later and expand on your points.

Definition of a business Aim:

Aims are long-term plans from which company objectives are derived.

Definition of a business Objective:

Business objectives are medium to long-term goals established to coordinate the business.

Once you have your aims and objectives written down set out short term goals, once those are listed move onto listing the tasks that when complete will achieve those goals. This list will guide you in small steps towards your eventual aims and objectives.

Work with a date calendar

A date calendar is a key tool to organise projects and meet future objectives. By setting out tasks and goals across a calendar you can organise your work load monthly, weekly or even day to day! This simple yet fantastic tool will help you organise and increase productivity; bringing structure to what can otherwise be chaos.

Top Tip: Setup a date calendar to maximise planning efficiency.
Consider using:

Microsoft Excel – Perfect for creating a custom simple calendar with massive scalability

Google Calendar – Prebuilt and available online at any time, this FREE online calendar comes with many powerful features including shared calendars, providing other online users exclusive access to your calendar.

Google Products Reminder

Google products reminder!

With the latest Google Products update in full swing, we just wanted to send another reminder on this update and what it means to you and eBay Sellers.

Last week, Google updated their product search algorithm to exclude many items including eBay listings which don’t have product identifiers. This means if your eBay products do not have product identifiers, you could lose massive search engine traffic and receive fewer sales!

eBay Says “In general, if your item has a UPC, ISBN, or EAN but you don’t include it in your listing, you may significantly reduce the possibility that your listing will appear in external search engine results.

As a seller, what does this mean to you?

If you don’t list your eBay products with product identifiers you are less likely to be indexed by product-based search engines (this includes Google!). If your products are not indexed, your products won’t be found on search engines and you will receive less traffic and fewer sales!

Of course, this doesn’t affect all sellers, as ‘Custom Made Goods’ and ‘Clothing Shoes and Accessories’ do not have product identifiers; however if you wish to preserve your existing sales, complete as much of the eBay listing fields as possible and add product identifiers where they are available to increase your Google search potential!

What’s a product identifier?

Almost every product in the world has a product identifier, a unique code which will globally identify that product.
The primary set of unique product identifiers are Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs), which include UPC, EAN, (in Europe), JAN (in Japan) and ISBN. In addition, a Manufacturer Part Number (MPN) can be used to identify a specific product if it is accompanied by the manufacturer’s brand name.

Top Tips:

  • Where available, use the eBay catalogue to identify your products
  • Add product identifiers to all of your eBay products
(You can look up UPC’s or EAN’s at the Internet UPC Database website and you can look ISBNs at ISBNdb.com)
  • Ensure you complete as much information as possible for custom made items and items in Clothing, Shoes and Accessories to increase the chance of being indexed by Google

As a Frooition customer, you can enjoy the many benefits of our special eBay relationship including peace of mind for this search engine update. We’ve already prepared our systems for this latest change, and created the additional fields required for this search engine update. Simply login and update your listings!
