Running your plan…

Running Your Plan

Running a plan is like taking a night drive home, even though you can only see 50 feet in front of you at times, you know eventually you’ll get there. You may need to adjust your route several times depending on what becomes visible, but sticking fast to your objectives and watching the road you’ll find the quickest and safest route to your destination.

Likewise with a plan, unexpected events will happen along the way and you may need to update and deviate perhaps several times but by drawing back to your objectives and holding fast to your plan you will get there.

Stay Fuelled – Your Mindset

If you want to make the whole journey you need to keep your vehicle fuelled and with the right stuff, similarly if your mind isn’t balanced and focused on the task at hand you won’t complete the project.

Stay positive

With a positive mindset things naturally go smoother and weigh less on your mind.

  • Take a deep breath and smile
Sounds almost too simple? Yet, smiling releases endorphins that make you feel good! So even if you don’t feel like smiling, take a moment and just hold that smile; see your smiling right now! :D
  • Don’t be anxious, relax
Worry and anxiety can at times help spur us forward to complete things, but more often than not anxiousness raises our stress levels, deprives us of sleep and generally runs us in a circle. If you feel anxious consider the reasons why? Is there anything you can do about it right now? If not, stand still, put your hands on your hips and take a slow deep breath and hold it for 2 seconds, exhale slowly… Now grab a pen, a piece of paper and write out your worry list of things you need to do to address this anxiety. Take a second deep breath and work through your list one point at a time.
  • Surprise!
Unexpected things are going to happen, try to stay balanced by accepting that such events will happen and you’ll be in a better state of mind to address them when they do.

Stay focused

“Help, I’m procrastinating!”, I’ve been there myself… sometimes you are thinking about so many different jobs you just start putting off the one you need to do right now and can’t focus. The key here is simple, prioritise. Simply pick up your work plan and establish the highest job priority. Once you know which job is the most important grab that job and do not let go until it’s completed.

Prioritising – Pay off versus time

There are many ways to prioritise your tasks; my method of choice is to weight each job by the time it takes to complete versus the amount of return the job would create upon completion. Once I’ve created this list I prioritise the greatest pay off jobs that take the shortest amount of time and work through each in turn.

Being SMART

It may feel like we’re going back to basics here but you need to be SMART, when you outline, review and update your goals ensure they are SMART.

S – Specific

M – Measurable

A – Attainable

R – Realistic

T – Timed

Regularly review your current jobs on the above points to ensure you are on target and not deviating from your end goal.

For example when it comes to measuring your budget if you find midway through your plan you are running over report the bad news to senior members immediately; it’s better to stop a project that is running over-budget than explaining why your department is at a huge loss in the next senior management meeting.

Top Tip:

  • Annotate!
When things go good or bad annotate your plan accordingly detailing what the event was, the effect it had on the plan and how you resolved the issues. These annotations will prove invaluable when evaluating your plan at a later date and help build your future planning skills.

Increase your eBay sales by optimising your eBay listing titles!

Increase your eBay sales by optimising your eBay listing titles!

Choosing the right keywords is crucial for your eBay listing strategy, often making the difference between being found and making the sale and not…

When building your eBay product listing titles, consider:

  • Your Professional Look
  • The Relevancy of product keywords
  • Keywords which have sufficient search volumes
  • Ensure you meet eBay guidelines

Did you know? If your product titles look strong enough they can even win an audience with prospective buyers over cheaper competitor listings!

Look professional…

Once your products are found in search results, your product titles are the first point of contact between you and your prospective buyers, so it’s imperative that your listing titles look clean and professional to inspire buyer confidence required to earn those valuable clicks!

The Structure

When creating your product listings, consider what title structure your target audience would expect to see. Consider the readability, relevancy and professional look of the titles.

For example:

Brand | Product Type – Product Derivation | Product Sub Derivation

E.g. Delonghi Oil Filled Radiator Heater 2000 Watts with Timer

E.g. Sony Digital Camera W310 12MP

Consistency

The key to a professional store image is consistency; applying the same title format across all of your listings.
This will improve the professional look of your store, helping to further increase buyer confidence.

Avoid Keyword Spamming

Whilst it’s important to use high volume search keywords, avoid using word variations multiple times in a listing title, this clutters the listings and reduces buyer confidence.

E.g. 32gb 32 gb 32 gig

Using special characters

Try to keep your titles clear and easy for buyers to scan and read, don’t use special characters or gimmicks.

E.g. L@@K

E.g. ~NWT Mens George ½ Zip Henley! Size M Nice L@@K :) ~

Include relevant keywords…

By ensuring you use relevant keywords in your product titles, your product listing will be included for searches on those keywords, in turn your product quality exposure  will increase and therefore your sales potential!

When prioritising keywords to include in your product listing you should consider:

  • Your competitive advantages for the product
  • The Profitability of the products associated with the keywords

Ok great, but what about creating my keyword list?

You need to first create a keyword opportunity list to identify which are most relevant; this basically means brainstorming as many relevant keyword ideas as possible and then prioritising.

Consider:

1) Root Brands and Product / Service Names

2) Brainstorming variations of product and brand related keywords – be careful of Trademarks

3) Talk to clients / Friends / Family to determine what terms they search for when looking for you r products

4) Study competing eBay product listings

5) Consider descriptive variations

Google Products Reminder

Monday, September 26th, 2011

Google products reminder!

With the latest Google Products update in full swing, we just wanted to send another reminder on this update and what it means to you and eBay Sellers.

Last week, Google updated their product search algorithm to exclude many items including eBay listings which don’t have product identifiers. This means if your eBay products do not have product identifiers, you could lose massive search engine traffic and receive fewer sales!

eBay Says “In general, if your item has a UPC, ISBN, or EAN but you don’t include it in your listing, you may significantly reduce the possibility that your listing will appear in external search engine results.

As a seller, what does this mean to you?

If you don’t list your eBay products with product identifiers you are less likely to be indexed by product-based search engines (this includes Google!). If your products are not indexed, your products won’t be found on search engines and you will receive less traffic and fewer sales!

Of course, this doesn’t affect all sellers, as ‘Custom Made Goods’ and ‘Clothing Shoes and Accessories’ do not have product identifiers; however if you wish to preserve your existing sales, complete as much of the eBay listing fields as possible and add product identifiers where they are available to increase your Google search potential!

What’s a product identifier?

Almost every product in the world has a product identifier, a unique code which will globally identify that product.
The primary set of unique product identifiers are Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs), which include UPC, EAN, (in Europe), JAN (in Japan) and ISBN. In addition, a Manufacturer Part Number (MPN) can be used to identify a specific product if it is accompanied by the manufacturer’s brand name.

Top Tips:

  • Where available, use the eBay catalogue to identify your products
  • Add product identifiers to all of your eBay products
(You can look up UPC’s or EAN’s at the Internet UPC Database website and you can look ISBNs at ISBNdb.com)
  • Ensure you complete as much information as possible for custom made items and items in Clothing, Shoes and Accessories to increase the chance of being indexed by Google

As a Frooition customer, you can enjoy the many benefits of our special eBay relationship including peace of mind for this search engine update. We’ve already prepared our systems for this latest change, and created the additional fields required for this search engine update. Simply login and update your listings!

Solve duplicate listing issues with Multi-Variation Listings

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Ending Duplicate listings on eBay.com

eBay.com have recently introduced a new item duplication policy which comes into force on the 26th October 2010. The highlights of the policy are that if you have multiple quantities of a particular product you must list them as a single multiple quantity fixed price listing.

eBay have also warned that if you do have multiple listings they must be to specifically address different buyer needs, e.g. single and bulk quantities of the same item. There is also a warning that sellers cannot use more than one eBay account to list the same products, you’re limited to a single listing for a specific item across all of your eBay User IDs.

For items that are made to fit specific products, models, or brands—for example a connector cable, phone charger or auto part—you can have up to five Fixed Price listings per item. eBay UK already have this policy but have a limit of up to five Fixed Price listings per item where items fit specific products, models, or brands.

eBay are also limiting different selling strategies which sellers use to appeal to different types of buyer, for example separate listings for identical items—one offering free shipping and one charging for shipping with the same or very similar total cost to the buyer—will be also considered duplicate listings.

To assist sellers eBay have introduced a duplicate listing look up tool which will not only identify how many duplicate listings you have (or more correctly listings which eBay will consider duplicates). From 26th October eBay will automatically end duplicate Fixed Price listings. Whenever possible eBay will retain the best performing listing but if you want to do this yourself you’ll need to act before eBay automatically cancel your items.

Multi-Variation listings

One of the reasons sellers traditionally listed multiple listings for the same product has been to gain a better position in search results. Some years ago when all items were sorted in Time Ending Soonest this would result in your listings naturally rising to the top of search results as they were about to end. When Best Match was introduced sellers continued the practice by listing with different keywords in titles to ensure their listings were found by buyers using different search terms.

“Multi-Variation Listings combines similar items which vary by one or more attributes, but are otherwise identical”

With the limiting of duplicate listings to a maximum of five on eBay.com, and only then if the item  specifically fits different brands or models, sellers now won’t be able to gain advantages from multiple listings.

It now makes Multi-Variation Listings much more attractive as a selling tool. A Multi-Variation Listings combines similar items which vary by one or more attributes, but are otherwise identical. This is seen most often in apparel where for example a shirt may vary by colour and size.

One of the big advantages of Multi-Variation Listings is that all variations receive a boost in Best Match, which means variations with less recent sales will appear higher in search results due to sales of more popular variations. This doesn’t happen with separate listings (even those allowed under the new duplicate listings policy where they significantly vary by colour or size).

Other advantages are cost savings – it’s the same price for a Multi-Variation Listing as for a single quantity fixed price item, and the ease of managing listings – you only have one listing to manage instead of multiple listings each with a different variation.

Multi-Variation Listings also give buyers the convenience of being able to select one or more variations without scrolling through a large number of search results. Multi-Variation Listings should become more attractive than ever to buyers as the total number of listings on eBay.com will be significantly reduced once the new duplicate listings policy comes into effect at the end of October.

Frooition have provided full support for launching Multi-Variation Listings directly from the Frooition design management software. This enables you to take full advantage of your Frooition listing template at the same time as easily launching Multi-Variation Listings onto eBay.

Actions to take by 26th October 2010

  1. Use the eBay duplicate listing look up tool to establish how many duplicate listings you have (you’ll need to log into the tool from each of your eBay User Ids.
  2. End duplicate listings, or wait for eBay to end the listings for you on or after the 26th October. If you end the listings manually you’ll have full control over which listing you retain.
  3. Cross check multiple eBay accounts to ensure you’re not selling the same product on more than one eBay ID.
  4. Use Frooition to launch Multi-Variation Listings to maximize your product’s position in Best Match.

New eBay policy improves search for buyers & boosts exposure for sellers

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

As an eBay Certified Provider, the Frooition team get information on upcoming changes [big or small] ahead of almost everybody else in the marketplace. We wanted to take this opportunity to share some information on an eBay release which is scheduled to be rolled out tuesday 26th October 2010.

This year eBay will help drive a more successful holiday selling season for all sellers by ensuring buyers have a quick, inspiring view of the great selection available for their holiday purchases. Effective October 26, the new Duplicate Listing policy will help prevent search results from being dominated by multiple duplicate listings of the same item from the same seller, and improve exposure for great listings from many more sellers.”

eBay have highlighted a couple of key points for this release which rolls out October 26th, once this listing duplication policyis released:

HIGHLIGHTS

  1. For any Fixed Price listing, the item offered must be significantly different from the item offered in any of your other Fixed Price listings. The difference must address a clear buyer benefit or need and must be clearly reflected in the listing title, price, photo or description. See examples to better understand the spirit and intent of the new policy and what qualifies as a significant difference.
  2. In the Fixed Price format, you can have only one listing per item. Multiples of an item must be sold in a multi-quantity Fixed Price listing.
  3. If you have more than one user ID, you are limited to one listing per item across all your selling accounts.
  4. For items that fit specific products, models, or brands—for example a connector cable, phone charger or auto part—you can have up to five Fixed Price listings per item. The specific products or brands the item fits should be specified in the listing title or description or in the compatibility section of compatibility listings in eBay Motors Parts & Accessories. See examples.
  5. The new Duplicate Listing policy does not apply to Auction-style listings. Note that Auction-style format listings are still subject to the Search & Browse Manipulation policy.
  6. New Fixed Price listings will no longer receive an upfront allotment of impressions in Best Match search results to jump start a listing performance score (the ratio of a listings sales to the number of impressions it receives). The clear advantage for all sellers will be to list Fixed Price items in low-cost, multi-quantity listings.
  7. Starting October 26, eBay will automatically end duplicate Fixed Price listings for you and credit your Insertion Fees and any listing upgrade fees on your next invoice.
  8. Use the duplicate listing look-up tool to quickly identify your duplicate listings.

TAKE ACTION

No action is required for compliance with the new policy—starting October 26, eBay will automatically end duplicate Fixed Price listings for you and credit your Insertion Fees and listing upgrade fees. Take these steps if you want to manage the changes yourself before October 26:

  1. Use the duplicate listing look-up tool to identify your duplicate listings and to see how each one ranks in search results.
  2. To consolidate listings, keep your highest performing listing and cancel the duplicates. Revise your best performer to add quantity.
  3. If you have duplicate listings for items that fit specific products such as auto parts and phone chargers, consolidate them in a maximum of 5 listings. Note for eBay Motors Parts & Accessory listings you have to fill all 300 spaces available with different compatible vehicles before creating a separate listing.
  4. If you have duplicate listings for items that are significantly different, revise the listing—for example the title or price—so the listings won’t be ended by eBay. Note that changing your title or price does not automatically reset your listing performance score (the listing’s ratio of sales to impressions) or necessarily impact your position in search. Of course, title can affect relevance and raising the price may make your listing less competitive—both are factors in how well a listing performs in Best Match search. Follow all the usual best practices for maximizing your listing performance.
  5. Note that spaces within units of measure in your title are now ignored when matching to a buyer’s search. For example if the buyer uses 5 MB in the search, your listing title will be recognized as relevant whether your title has 5MB or 5 MB (with a space). Use all 55 characters to help differentiate your listing.
  6. If you create separate listings for identical items in two or more categories, the listings will be seen as duplicates. To list in two categories, list the item once in the primary category and if it’s available, use the second category listing upgrade.

eBay are releasing some Best Practise guides, and a section for FAQ too, which will be made available through their eBay announcements channel (found in “Community” area of the eBay site)

If you have any questions or comments on this topic, we’re always open to debate!
